80/100 Getting Closer ... !

After the excitement of an interview on CTV last night, it was hard to settle back down to work on my 80th painting this morning.  The response last night and today has been very encouraging.  Thank you to those of you who watched the programme last night and emailed, rang or texted kind words afterwards.

80 paintings does sound like I've done quite a lot, however, another 20 is still seems a fair few too.

Since my last blog 10 days/paintings ago, I've been on a weekend workshop with my sister Marlene Howie (yes, she flew down to Christchurch again) run by renowned New Zealand watercolourist Brian Millard.  We had two long days of intensive learning with him.  What a fountain of knowledge and experience he has and what an inspiration he is!  With his guidance I was able to tackle a back-country painting (pictured on this blog) on a full sheet of Saunders watercolour paper - my largest watercolour painting by far - roughly 750mm x 500mm.  It took me several days to complete back home in my studio, but I am thrilled with having managed it.  Since then I've been painting a number of watercolours though I'll be back to oils and acrylics again for the next week or so.

Workshops are valuable experiences for artists.  No only do you learn and get inspirational ideas, but also you get to meet other like-minded people who are keen to make progress too.

Spring has sprung in this part of the world - lambs are gamboling around in the paddocks, the daffodils are out and the fruit trees are in blossom.  I hope the weeds in my garden don't race away too quickly before the end of my 100 Day Challenge!

looking good Ruth! Cant wait to see your work on Monday!

Thanks Sue. Yes the numbers are slowly stacking up - 19 more to go!

I take it you're back in Christchurch again. It'll be good to catch up while we produce our masterpieces on Monday. See you tomorrow.

Ruth

You will be well and truly counting down instead of up now!I like the last few especially the mountain range in the skiing one.

Thanks Mel. Yep now that I've got under 20 to go I'm finally on the countdown! Looks as though I might be able to make it.

a lovely sunny day at Ruths with coffee and chat as we enjoyed watching Monarch butterlies galore in the Budlia tree. Of course there was lots of exciting work to see in Ruths studio .
Painting my old family home proved a challenge for me and Ruth got inspired by the butterflies.

Your old family home is beautiful Sue. I can well understand that you would want to capture it on canvas. The butterfly I was painting was put aside today after you left and I worked on a delicate watercolour.

Wasn't the day lovely though? I really enjoyed that Lyn came round and shared a coffee and arty chat with us for a while too. She said she'd come around next Monday as well, so I hope she brings her paints and joins us. Imagine what we could learn if she did!

I phoned Ruth last week to be told she was in the hen house and I thought she must be taking photos for her next painting. No, she was collecting eggs. But yesterday being Monday and my special day with Ruth, when I looked at her work at lunchtime a most marvellous hen awaited. Its feathers were glorious!
I left before the chicks had hatched but am looking foward to seeing them next week.

I enjoyed reading this Sue. I even had quite a chuckle, thanks! The hen painting had several chickens last night but this morning I took one of them away because I wasn't happy with it. Since looking at it yet again, I think a few more of her chickens can be given back to Bookbook ... they were hers in the first place, after all!
