MAKING THE MOST OF TRAVELLING TO ART SHOWS

Ruth Reid / Comment on this

Late November and I'm heading off to the Dunedin Art Show and feeling very thankful that here in New Zealand we're finally able to have live shows in 2020. Not that I'm complaining about the new opportunities opened to us with the online shows, but there's no doubt that I like the interraction with visiting people who are interested in art, catching up with my artist friends and making the most of the trip to the shows.

The first night away in my wee campervan, I stopped off for a night to visit my brother and sister-in-law.  The second night I stayed in a camping ground in Moeraki and enjoyed the afternoon sky (pictured above) and the fishing boats in the harbour.

Then it was set-up time.  Clearly, NZers were ready to get out and make the most of public functions again.  I've never had so many sales of both original artworks and prints over the four-days of a show.  Here's my initial set-up and here's proof of my sales!

Finally over and pack-down completed.  It was nice to have a bit more room in my campervan with far fewer artworks to negotiate around.  Anyway ... I was determined to make the most of my time in the South of New Zealand so I planned to take a few extra weeks travelling around a few remote places sketching and resource gathering for future paintings before I headed back up the country to my home.

Next instalment, I'll share some of the places and ideas I have for 2021.
